ENGLISH AS A SECOND LANGUAGE
Sprott-Shaw International Language College utilizes the Canadian Language Benchmarks (CLB) to assess students in all 4 skills:
	Reading
	Listening
	Speaking
	Writing

Description:	The Canadian Language Benchmarks has 12 levels delivered in 3 stages. It is designed to accurately assess a student's ability to communicate in each skill area. Sprott-Shaw International Language College understands that students may be weaker in one skill area and higher in another. The Canadian Language Benchmarks (CLB) addresses this by testing students' speaking, listening, writing and reading separately and assigning a level to each area. Therefore, students have the direction to work on each skill at the appropriate level, in turn progressing more quickly. The curriculum has been designed to give students the opportunity to focus on areas that need the most help, and with their instructor, develop an action plan that will address their individual communication needs.
Requirements:	18 years of age or older, high school graduate or equivalent; completion of Canadian Language Benchmarks English proficiency assessment to determine appropriate stage and level.
Duration:	4 to 48 weeks available Full-time Monday through Friday _________9 am to 3 pm Part-time Monday though Friday _________9 am to noon _________1 pm to 3 pm FREE Conversation class from Monday through Thursday _________3 pm to 4pm Weekly intake/start dates
Certification:	Sprott-Shaw International Language College will issue certificates to students that have reached a required proficiency level at each stage of the Canadian Language Benchmarks. Students completing stage I, II, or III, will receive a certificate in the following: Bronze (Level 1): completed level 4 in all skill areas Silver (Level 2): completed level 8 in all skill areas Gold (Level 3): completed level 12 in all skill areas
